Tuning In | How Well Do You Listen To Your Inner Voice?

My gut has never lied. Like, ever. But, I have always been a really crappy listener when it comes to listening to my inner voice. I am able to listen to others actively and provide so much comfort and validation to them. So why is it so hard to do it for myself?

I have never trusted the ability to follow my intuition, or inner voice, and be able to just know that it would not lead me astray. When I think back to all the times I did follow it, I've been 100% bang on. So why the doubt?

A little thing called ego. No, I don't mean that sense of self-importance but rather the part of the mind that mediates between the conscious and the unconscious and is responsible for reality testing and a sense of personal identity.

My ego makes me want validation for literally everything I do. I have always wanted that sense of control and success over every aspect of my life. One thing I have learned is that leaning in a little more toward the divine feminine energy and going with the flow creates a beautiful shift in your mind and presence.

I have always been the type to play the card that felt right. Just to clarify, by right, I mean socially acceptable. The one that would provide me with the very best feedback from my personal stakeholders. The other cards? Well, they were left to fall where they might. Usually farthest away from my line of sight.

Why do that when you have the availability to DESIGN a life that suits you and your life purpose? When I finally tuned in to my own frequency, my own inner voice, and I began taking risks to follow what it was telling me a little more often I can tell you, I have never felt more in alignment than I ever have to my own journey and purpose. On top of tuning in, I have spent the last four years learning about whatever I felt pulled toward. I sometimes had no idea why I wanted to learn certain things, but every single thing I have spent my time, money and effort on, has come back to pay off in some form or fashion. Is it scary to take risks? Absolutely. After all, the definition of being brave, according to Dr. Jody Carrington is "doing something with your whole heart when you can't predict the outcome". But, it's also leading me down the most amazing path I could ever imagine. Have I made it to the end? Far from it. I can tell you my path is lit with the most beautiful light and these days, it feels easy to keep walking through the dark!

How Listening Has Changed Me | Some Positive Side Effects You Might Experience Too!

Freedom of Choice - I no longer feel overwhelmed with the judgement of others or their opinions. I continue to practice to know that what my inner voice tells me is for MY highest good and that it can be trusted.

Determination - I am determined to make a connection with my higher self and be able to tune in easily instead of constantly looking for outside validation and direction. Practice makes perfect! And let’s be real, for me there is a total element of fun in learning to tune in to yourself.

Built In Self-Care - I need a quiet space to connect, which also instantly provides me with an element of self-care. It allows me to “unplug” from the outside world and take some time for me. If I don't have a quiet space I create one with my headphones and some beautiful music!

Being A Role Model - The choices I make always involve the well being of my kids. Knowing that I am leading by example makes me proud of myself. I want them growing up knowing that they can rely on their own abilities and intuition to help guide their life and day to day choices. I also want them to know it’s never too late to start something new or pursue a new dream. “ Let the beauty we love be what we do.” -Rumi - In life, my interests have changed as I have aged and I want the kids to know that’s natural. The more you grow, the more you know and sometimes that involves shifting where your interest and attention goes.

Mindfulness - Learning to tune in has made me want to live more in the present and really see what is happening in front of me versus always thinking about the past or the future. Setting my intention daily and paying attention to what shows up has allowed me to choose what feels authentic or “right”. It makes the days more interesting and the connections genuine.

Positivity - THIS, my friends, is a big one. The more I tune in and follow my inner voice, the more positive I feel about my life and the choices I make. Even when things don’t go my way, I am able to find the positive in the situation. Tuning in has helped me remember that life is happening FOR me and not TO me. This, along with developing a daily gratitude practice, has been life changing for my mindset and how I am able to react to what life throws my way.

I hope this has made a little bit of light shine through for you. If you have been on the fence about whether to trust all those nudges, do it. You won't regret it. The more you tune in and listen, the more information you will get and the easier life will be!
